EMPOWERING YOUR TEAM: WHAT YOU DO MATTERS MORE THAN WHAT YOU SAY

A few years ago I was running a leadership programme for a large pharmaceutical company when a senior executive told me with genuine frustration in his voice that “I keep telling my team that I empower them but they still keep coming to me to make small decisions and to tell them what to do.”

This lead me to wonder whether saying “I empower you” is enough if everything else remains the same?
